So I wanted to use the scanner function on my all-in-one printer/fax/scanner. But the scanner will not work because the black ink has run out!
I get this printer scanner error:
“Printer is in use or an error has occurred. Check status. Scanner driver will close.
Code:2, 140, 21″
So frustrating! Why won’t the scanner work just because there is no ink?? Others will say check your printer, stop any existing print jobs, replace the ink, do a factory reset of your printer, turn off the PC firewall. But, read on to fix your Code:2, 140, 21 error 🙂
SOLUTION! How to use your scanner when the printer ink has run out
But do you know how to fix the issue of the scanner not working because there is no ink? Press and hold the Stop button for 5 seconds and the printer ink warning will go away. Your scanner will now work again, including from your PC software (I was using Photoshop).
Oh what joy. I was able to use my scanner despite the printer ink being empty.
Despite having turned my printer off a few times, the error has not reoccurred.
