Taken in Autumn 2019. Such a great time of year to visit Japan. Beautiful weather - warm days, cool nights, and red and yellow maple leaves.

Also, you HAVE to try the momiji "croissant" at Miyajima. It looks like a pastry that's been put in a maple leaf shaped hot press. I went back another 2 times - I would have gone back again but by late afternoon they'd closed.

I had a lot of fun exploring the Blue Mountains in 2019. The landscapes are so different to what I am used to (the rolling hills and rainforested mountains of the Mid North Coast).

I took a wrong turn this day. It was supposed to be a sedate 1.5 hour trip but was a 5+ hour trek all the way down to the bottom, along the bottom, and then back up. It was a good hike :) Since it was so long, I forget where this is ;) Somewhere along the Wentworth Pass walking track.

Nagoya Castle was constructed in 1612 and was unfortunately destroyed during World War II. It was restored in 1959.

Taken at the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto in 2019. Possibly a section not often visited, being at the far back corner of what appeared to be a shady moss covered graveyard.⠀

I heard the melodious sound of falling water so I followed it to the source - and found a plastic bucket of water. The sound of the water hitting the bucket was amplifying the sound to make it nicer ;)⠀

If you want nice photos without people in the way, the advice to "get there early" is out of date as even at 7am there's already a growing number of people. So I say "get there earlier". The further along you walk, the less people you will find, as people will show up to get their iconic tourist photo and then head back down the hill. So even after 7am you'll still be able to get good photos without a high chance of someone being in the way.⠀

A photo of one of the cannons at Fort Scratchley in Newcastle, Australia. I took it in 2010 before the cannons got a fresh coat of paint and canvas wraps around the tips. I think the old faded look has more character.⠀⠀

In 1910 the two 6 inch Mk VII guns were installed. They were retired in 1962 but restored in 1992. They are fired on special occasions such as ANZAC Day.⠀They were the only cannons in Australia to return fire, when a Japanese submarine started launching shells into Newcastle in an attempt to destroy the ship building yards. They failed. The cannons also failed to hit the submarine ;)⠀
